How Medicare Brokers Are Paid

Review published CMS compensation guidance and ask Sokar about its own fees and carrier relationships.

The federal compensation framework

CMS publishes Medicare health and drug plan agent/broker compensation amounts. Carriers may pay an agent or broker for an enrollment under the applicable rules. A particular person’s compensation or all Sokar financial arrangements cannot be established from the CMS schedule alone.

Ask about incentives

Request a plain explanation of which organizations the broker represents, how a proposed enrollment is compensated, whether any separate service fee is charged and whether the options shown cover the entire local market. Do not assume zero fee or identical pay among products.

Consumer protections

Medicare sets rules for the marketing and sale of health plans, including how agents contact people. Medicare Plan Compare and 1-800-MEDICARE provide independent routes for checking additional choices.
