Medigap Plan M
Review partial Part A deductible coverage and other standardized benefits.
Plan M benefit schedule
Plan M includes the common core, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, half the Part A deductible, and limited foreign-travel emergencies. The same standardized letter has the same basic benefits among companies in most states. Massachusetts, Minnesota and Wisconsin standardize differently; confirm the policy offered in your state.

Costs this letter leaves open
Plan M does not include the remaining half of the Part A deductible, the Part B deductible, and Part B excess charges. A Medigap policy pays only for its listed share of Medicare-covered services; the presence of a policy does not make an otherwise excluded service eligible. Review the chart row by row before quoting a monthly premium.

The decision point for Plan M
Plan M pays 50% of the Part A deductible. For a 2026 hospital benefit period the full deductible is $1,736, so the member share of this particular deductible would be $868 under the standard schedule. Other uncovered costs may also apply.

Timing and eligibility
Plan M is not protected by Medicare’s October–December plan-election period. Its usual federal Medigap purchase window begins the first month you are at least 65 and enrolled in Part B, lasts six months, and can be followed by underwriting unless an additional protected right applies.

Quote and enrollment checks
Request the premium for Plan M in your ZIP code from each available insurer, with its rating method, household discounts, projected age increases and effective date. Part B premium remains payable; newly sold Medigap coverage does not supply Part D drugs, so price a separate drug plan when needed. Verify providers accept Medicare rather than treating a Medigap company as an Advantage network.
