Medigap Plan G
Review the popular structure that covers most Original Medicare cost sharing after the Part B deductible.
Plan G benefit schedule
Plan G includes the common core, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, the Part A deductible, Part B excess charges, and limited foreign-travel emergencies. The same standardized letter has the same basic benefits among companies in most states. Massachusetts, Minnesota and Wisconsin standardize differently; confirm the policy offered in your state.

Costs this letter leaves open
Plan G does not include the Part B deductible. A Medigap policy pays only for its listed share of Medicare-covered services; the presence of a policy does not make an otherwise excluded service eligible. Review the chart row by row before quoting a monthly premium.

The decision point for Plan G
Plan G leaves the annual Part B deductible to you, which is $283 in 2026. Once it is met, the plan’s standard benefits cover the listed Part B coinsurance and excess charges. The deductible is distinct from the policy’s monthly premium.

Timing and eligibility
For Plan G, the six-month federal buying window begins the first month you are at least 65 and have Part B. Compare quotes before that window closes. A future desire to switch from Advantage to Original Medicare does not itself guarantee the ability to buy Plan G; check any applicable trial or state right first.

Quote and enrollment checks
Request the premium for Plan G in your ZIP code from each available insurer, with its rating method, household discounts, projected age increases and effective date. Part B premium remains payable; newly sold Medigap coverage does not supply Part D drugs, so price a separate drug plan when needed. Verify providers accept Medicare rather than treating a Medigap company as an Advantage network.
