Medigap Plan D
Review Plan D benefits and how it differs from similarly named Medicare Part D.
Plan D benefit schedule
Plan D includes the common core, skilled nursing facility coinsurance, the Part A deductible, and limited foreign-travel emergencies. The same standardized letter has the same basic benefits among companies in most states. Massachusetts, Minnesota and Wisconsin standardize differently; confirm the policy offered in your state.

Costs this letter leaves open
Plan D does not include the Part B deductible and Part B excess charges. A Medigap policy pays only for its listed share of Medicare-covered services; the presence of a policy does not make an otherwise excluded service eligible. Review the chart row by row before quoting a monthly premium.

The decision point for Plan D
Medigap Plan D is a supplemental medical policy; Medicare Part D is prescription coverage. Plan D pays the Part A deductible but leaves the Part B deductible to the member. In 2026 that Part B deductible is $283.

Timing and eligibility
Medigap Plan D purchase rights depend on your Part B enrollment date, not on the Medicare Part D drug-plan election calendar. The usual federal protection runs for six months after you are at least 65 and have Part B. Later applications may be medically underwritten unless another guaranteed-issue or state right applies.

Quote and enrollment checks
Request the premium for Plan D in your ZIP code from each available insurer, with its rating method, household discounts, projected age increases and effective date. Part B premium remains payable; newly sold Medigap coverage does not supply Part D drugs, so price a separate drug plan when needed. Verify providers accept Medicare rather than treating a Medigap company as an Advantage network.
