Medigap Comparison Chart
Compare standardized plan benefits side by side before evaluating carriers.
Start with eligibility, not a grid
Before reading a Plan A–N grid, confirm the person has Original Medicare and an applicable Medigap purchase opportunity. Federal open enrollment begins with Part B at age 65 or older and lasts six months; guaranteed-issue rights can arise from defined later events. C and F are not available to people newly eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020. State-specific designs may apply.

Compare Part A hospital exposure
For 2026 the Original Medicare inpatient Part A deductible is $1,736 per benefit period. Standard Plan A does not pay it; B, C, D, F, G and N do, M pays half, K pays 50% and L 75%, subject to the standardized chart. For K and L, broader annual cost-sharing conditions also matter. Compare likely hospitalization, not just physician visits.

Compare Part B and excess charges
The 2026 Original Medicare Part B deductible is $283. Only Plans C and F in the traditional letter chart cover it for those eligible to buy those letters. Plans F and G cover Part B excess charges; N does not and may impose specified office and emergency copays. Compare physician assignment practices and frequency of visits to understand the possible difference.

Separate maximums and foreign travel
Plans K and L have 2026 out-of-pocket limits of $8,000 and $4,000 after the annual Part B deductible; these are Medigap-specific calculations, not Medicare Advantage maximums. Certain letters cover 80% of qualifying foreign-travel emergency expense up to plan limits. Original Medicare generally does not cover care outside the United States, and routine travel expenses remain separate.

Then compare insurers
Once the correct letter is selected, its core standardized benefits are equivalent among carriers in most states. Compare actual premium, rating method, discounts, service and availability for the same residence and effective date. Add separate Part D premium and drug spending. A table that omits premium, eligibility or state variation is a benefit reference, not a full decision.
